Welcome to my first sewing project in The Creative Corner!
My six-year-old daughter has a Unicorn Hair Clip Wall Hanger in her room - it is overflowing with cute clips and ribbons, and I still have more in her wardrobe…with October coming Ive also been purchasing Halloween themed hair clips. So, the obvious solution is to sort out another storage option (if you were thinking stop buying hair clips - no way!).
Upon inspection the Unicorn Organiser is made of felt and wool and sewed together - how hard could that be to make?! I decided I have felt … I have wool…. Let's make a Halloween inspired organiser.
And what could be cuter than a friendly little ghost? This would also fit with the wool strands that the clips attach to hanging down from the ghost’s sheet.
Bringing the Little Ghost to Life
I started by finding a ghost image I liked (Pinterest/Canva/Google). Trace this onto some baking paper to make some templates for each part you will cut out.
Run out and buy more felt colours … (hehe).. Oh, and some more wool colours.
Next, if you are anything like me, you need to figure out what stitch and then how to do it. I went with a blanket stitch and after a quick search on TikTok found a tutorial. I chose black cotton (three strands to make it thicker) to go with the hand drawn vibe on the outline.
Once the pieces were stitched together (with some mistakes along the way - don't look too closely), I added some Dacron stuffing to give the ghost a little shape and dimension.
Adding the Halloween Details
I added the face details with a hot glue gun to give it a friendly smile.
And sewed a little orange pumpkin with a jack-o’-lantern face - just like my daughters treat basket.
I love how the purple, mint green, orange and yellow work together to create something colourful and cute to hang on her wall.
Turning it into a Hair Clip Organiser
The final part of the project was adding long strands of white wool beneath the ghost.
These create a place to attach and display hair clips.
Once everything was glued and sewed together, I added a hanging loop with plaited black wool and filled the organiser with the purchased Halloween hair clips.
The finished piece is a fun little wall decoration that keeps hair accessories organised and adds a touch of Halloween magic to the room.
A Little Creativity, A Lot of Colour!
This was such a fun project to make, and I love how all the little details came together.
